2.Field heterogeneity in the TMA apparatus and low sample representativity. Low sample representativity is caused by small sample volume (about 10 mm3). When sample is being prepared, it is crushed and ground in a mortar. As a result, an accidental enrichment (or dilution) with ferromagnetic minerals can occur. The crushed sample is then casually poured into the holder. In a gradient field, the way the ferromagnetic grains are arranged within the sample is of great importance. These two factors (low sample representativity and the gradient field) randomize the ratio Mi_T/Mi_B, which is the cause for 0.8 < Mi_T/Mi_B < 1.2.
